I'll try to keep this bio fairly brief. I find my mind wandering when someone goes on, adnauseam, about themselves. I assume others might do so as well.

I began writing, or rather became interested in writing in 1990. It was all part of my plan to retire in Europe, but that's another story. I floundered about, trying to write various pieces, then settled down and began to study the craft of writing, buying as many books as I could find on both the craft of writing, and the business of agenting and publishing. I attended a number of writer's workshops in Seattle, and took advantage of a program at the Seattle Library, called Washington Center For The Book http://www.spl.org/wacentbook/programs.html, where authors, agents, and publishers would speak and answer questions.

Along the way, based on the advice of various teachers and speakers, I wrote a series of short stories. In 1996 I screwed up the courage to enter a couple of them in writing contests. One of the stories placed in the top ten of a contest at a large writer's conference in the northwest, and the other received an honorable mention in the magazine, Writer's Digest. My ego thus assuaged, I began working on the The Homeboy in earnest.

The Homeboy finds its basis in my own life, although I am happy to say that I never suffered the terrible things that Mickey, the main character endures. Like Mickey, I was raised in a boy's home, in the Midwest, and much of what takes place in the early years of Mickey's life, parallels my own. People have asked me if the story is fact or fiction, and I tell them it's "faction".

I live in Seattle with my wife, Gale, and our two cats, Guinness and Beamish. I have three terrific children, Tracy, Joey, and Sean, from my first marriage. They live in San Diego with their five beautiful daughters, Seanae, Autumn, Nicole, Tiana, and Moriah.

Gale and I, in addition to loving Seattle, enjoy good food and wine, live theater, street/art fairs, and cultural events. I, rather than Gale, am an avid baseball fan (Go Mariners!) and enjoy playing golf.

So, there you have it. Thanks for stopping by this page. There are some links below, and to the left that take you to some family photos, information on writing, Seattle restaurants, golf, and some of my left-leaning politics (if you dare).
